In August 2019, Italian disabled artist Chiara Bersani (the winning choreographer of the UBU 2018 award) was Artist-in-Residence with Centro Internazionale della Danza and Oriente Occidente Dance Festival.
Her research during this residency focused on worlds of water, seafaring, ports, ship moorings, perspectives seen from afar, alongside themes of waiting, of being , and uncertainty of how to act in situations.
In September 2019, Bersani returned for a second residency, this time with Swedish dance company SPINN for a cross-cultural exchange and to develop shared choreographic research together.
From this residency, Bersani’s choreographic interpretation of Moby Dick was born, also supported through Europe Beyond Access. The premiere of this performance is scheduled for the fortieth edition of the Oriente Occidente Dance Festival in 2021.
