Celebrating the work of Irini Kourouvani, a disabled dancer and choreographer based in Greece who has developed her unique practice by moving between the worlds of sports and performing arts.
Having taken part in four world championships (athletics, para dance sport, powerlifting and sailing), her dance credits include performing with Wrong Move Dance Co., taking part in an underwater dance show Drops of Breath (by Sophie Bulbulyan and Apostolia Papadamaki), performing at Athens Festival in 2007 and Kalamata Dance Festival in 2016.
For the past four years, she has collaborated with Onassis STEGI in Athens as a dance educator for the programme Unlimited Access/i-dance. As part of Europe Beyond Access, Kourouvani has taken part in artist laboratories in Malmo (working with Caroline Bowditch and Luke Pell), and Maastricht (working with Adam Benjamin and Jeanefer Jean-Charles), as well as performing in Re-Call, an innovative duet with Vivi Christodoulopoulo also commissioned through the project.
